FILMMAKING

Eoghan is a graduate of IADT National Film School, where he specialised in Documentary Direction and Editing. Since then he has worked on History Channel's VIKINGS as social media producer, capturing behind-the-scenes content on location in Co. Wicklow. He also worked as a development assistant with Element Pictures, during an exciting period which saw the release of THE LOBSTER and ROOM. There he assisted with many administrative duties, as well as providing coverage for numerous screenplays and manuscripts.

His debut short film THE CHANCE OF STRIKING GOLD was selected to screen at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2011, in addition to Fastnet Film Festival and a SMEDIA award nomination. It told the story of two brothers living by the sea in the recession, one of whom acquires a metal detector in order to find gold on the beach. That same year he directed the documentary ASPECTS OF ANITA, which explored a woman's journey with bipolar disorder. In 2013, his short documentary HOMEGROWN KNOWLEDGE, which concerned a family of homeschoolers in Co. Carlow, was screened as part of the Irish Film Institute's Stranger Than Fiction festival.

Following this, he wrote and directed an ambitious period drama called STACCATO. Set in the 19th century, the film concerned a secret affair between a young pianist preparing for his debut recital and a male labourer on the grounds of his estate. Collaborating with producer Caroline Kealy, cinematographer Miguel Angel Viñas, production designer Sorcha Dianamh and pianist David O'Shea, this was an excellent opportunity to develop his creative skills. The 23-minute film featured a large ensemble of talented Irish actors, and went onto receive international recognition.

The Irish premiere took place in Lighthouse Cinema, Dublin in February 2016. The following month the film received its North American premiere at the 18th annual Washington DC Independent Film Festival, where Eoghan and Caroline were invited to participate in a post-screening Q&A. The film went onto be selected for QFlix Philadelphia and Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival.

STACCATO has been featured on several media outlets including Film Ireland, Washington Blade, GCN, Raindance Film Festival and Gaytimes.co.uk where it was praised for bringing "a much-needed edge to the heavily-saturated period drama genre" and for "culminating in a tragic finale worthy of Shakespeare." It has recently been made available online and has now amassed over 700,000 views.

In 2019, Eoghan wrote and directed TERMINUS, an intimate dystopian mood piece that returned to his roots of shooting with no budget at locations around his hometown of Swords. For his next film Eoghan will continue to examine complex human relationships, this time in a contemporary setting, with a character who is struggling in the pursuit of artistic excellence, and with a deep conflict at its core. Titled IN THE FLESH, the film is now in pre-production.

Eoghan shoots no-budget experimental work on a regular basis, as well as writing short fiction and developing future film projects. He is currently undertaking an MA in Film and Television Screenwriting at IADT, for which he will develop a feature film called AN IMPOSSIBLE WOMAN, along with a TV series proposal.
